COUPLE: Andrew & Lauren
DATE: October 26, 2025
GUEST #: 100
CEREMONY LOCATION: St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church
RECEPTION LOCATION: The Pearl Hotel & Spa "One of the first venues we considered was actually Ancaster Mill, a place I was familiar with from growing up in Ancaster. After touring Ancaster Mill, they also suggested that we check out some of the other venues run by the same group, Pearle Weddings. One of those is, of course, The Pearle, and we fell in love as soon as we saw it. While Ancaster Mill is certainly a beautiful venue, The Pearle has a classy, modern aesthetic that perfectly matched our personalities and the theme we were going for. We also had many guests coming from out of town, so the reception venue being a hotel was very convenient." - L&A
PHOTOGRAPHER: Timeless Media "This is a funny story, because we actually found Justin at a Wedding Ring Expo! Justin had a booth among the vendors' tables, and we hit it off immediately. We loved the examples he showed us of his previous work, and we clicked right away as we told him about the early ideas we had for our wedding. He definitely stood out the most of all the vendors we saw that day, and we were sure we wanted him for our wedding. We actually booked him as our photographer before we even had a finalized venue or date! He was the perfect choice to capture our navy and gold wedding." - L&A
COLOUR PALETTE: "Our wedding theme was "starry night", and we really tried to show our theme in as many ways as possible. Our colour palette was navy and gold to represent that night sky and the stars, as well as white to keep a classy bridal look.
When Andrew and I got engaged, his sister Cheryl gifted us a map of the stars specific to the date and location that Andrew proposed to me. This inspired my idea for our Save the Dates, which featured a star map of our wedding date at The Pearle. Our wedding invitations continued the theme, featuring a clear acrylic invite decorated with gold stars in a navy envelope.
Our wedding party’s outfits also conveyed our starry night theme. Our entire wedding party, wore navy. Andrew wore a pale gold vest, while the other suits had vests matching the navy of the suit, and everyone wearing a suit wore a handmade lapel pin depicting their zodiac sign. Everyone wearing a dress in the wedding party got to choose the style of their dress, but they were all made of matching fabric, and were accompanied by a handmade pearl necklace that symbolized the pearly stars in the sky.
The Northshore room at The Pearle was the perfect location to bring our theme to life. One entire wall of the room consists of floor-to-ceiling windows, which allowed a beautiful view of the city lights and night sky to be revealed as our wedding reception continued into the night. Behind our sweetheart table was a circular gold arch, with flowers filling in a crescent on one side to resemble a crescent moon.
All of our signs incorporated moon and star imagery as well; our welcome sign and table numbers both featured constellations in a starry sky, and our seating chart was a large crescent moon with the names listed in the shadow of the moon. Each table was named after the zodiac constellation of one of the guests seated at that table. When our guests sat down for dinner, each table had gold mercury glass vases with twinkle lights on a long runner of navy tulle to convey the twinkle of the stars in the night sky. Even our wedding cake was decorated with beautiful blue watercolour buttercream icing with hand-painted gold stars and constellations." - L
TELL US YOUR STORY: "Andrew and I actually met as members of the McMaster University Concert Band! He plays bassoon and I play piano alto saxophone, so we often sat near each other, and we became friends during our time there. We lost touch after graduation, as Andrew continued his studies in Computer Science at McMaster University and I moved to Waterloo for the Optometry program at the University of Waterloo. One day, a few years later, Andrew messaged me out of the blue to catch up and reconnect. That moment sparked a real connection that bloomed into a relationship as we continued to message each other. We had actually scheduled our first in-person date for late March 2020, but those plans were disrupted when the world shut down due to the pandemic. Despite that, our relationship continued to develop online through video calls and online video game dates.
I’ll never forget the perfect first date that Andrew planned for us. Once social distancing measures started to let up, Andrew brought me to the Royal Botanical Gardens for the afternoon. We first toured the Rock Garden, and then we went over to the Arboretum for a walk through the woods. It was on a small wooden bridge along one of those trails that we shared our first kiss. The next two years were full of fun and adventure; Andrew and I travelled together, visited his family’s cottage, adopted our two cats Gwyn and Nito from the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA, and so much more.
Then, on the exact same bridge where our first kiss took place just over two years earlier, Andrew proposed to me. Standing on that bridge, surrounded by the autumn leaves, with my soulmate on one knee, the moment felt like something out of a fairy tale. We still love to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens to this day, and every year we visit that spot." - L

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "The biggest challenge was honestly finding the time to put the effort into planning and preparing for our wedding. We really wanted our wedding day to be perfect, down to all of the little details fitting our theme, but we also wanted to stay within a reasonable budget. All of this wedding planning and preparation also happened while I was opening my own optometry practice. I definitely remember discussing table decorations while assembling IKEA furniture for the clinic. These were both huge time investments, and I am so grateful for all of the help and support I got from family and friends for both; without them, neither one would have gone off as successfully as they did. I want to give a special shout out to my mother, Luana, who really was my co-wedding planner." - L
BEST MEMORY: "Andrew and I both that the most memorable moment from our wedding day was our first dance. We took dance lessons with Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Hamilton for a few months ahead of our wedding, and our instructor Julia created the most beautiful wedding dance to the song “It Only Happens When I Dance With You” from the Fred Astaire and Judy Gardland movie "Easter Parade".
As a child, I watched "Easter Parade" many times with my grandfather, and that was his favourite song. He passed away when I was a teenager, and that song always reminds me of him. He used to tell me that I needed to find a guy who would dance with me to that song, so dancing with Andrew to this song as our first dance meant so much to me. It made me feel like my grandfather could be a part of our wedding day.
Andrew and I enjoyed dancing together so much that we have continued our lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studio ever since!" - L
ADVICE FROM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: "Decide on a wedding theme early, and stick to it. Having a clear theme will help you make a lot of decisions, such as colour scheme, invitations, decor, table settings, and even your venue! It also helps you communicate the ‘vibe’ of your wedding to your vendors, and can help your vendors make unique suggestions for ideas they have that fit the theme. I can also say that it is extremely satisfying to see your vision come to life on your big day!" - L
