All you need is love... and

Lindsay and Dustin love the fall and really wanted to have their wedding in the peak of the season. They also are not afraid of colour, so with that their vibrant fall decor inspiration came together. Using mini pumpkins and taper candles with beautiful orange, rust and green florals they brought their vision to life.

COUPLE: Lindsay & Dustin

WEDDING DATE: October 13, 2023

GUEST # : 85

CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATION: Puddicombe House “We chose to have our wedding at Puddicombe House for two main reasons. We love the beautiful architecture of the main restaurant building. The newer venue building was designed to resemble the same old style. The venue is so beautiful in and of itself that it didn’t require lots of additional decor, which was a huge bonus! It made bringing our vibrant fall decor to life so easy.

Secondly, food is very important to us (some would say we are very food motivated) and we had heard great things about the food at Puddicombe House; we were not disappointed! Serving our guests a fantastic meal, without having to also coordinate with an outside caterer was a lifesaver.” – L

PHOTOGRAPHER: Spirits Intrigued Photography “We actually came across Alex from his booth at the Ring Wedding Expo. He was set up across from Puddicombe House’s booth and, as we had already booked the venue, we were chatting with their representative. She suggested we check out Alex as he seemed to be highly professional and passionate about his work.

After chatting with him and viewing his work we were very impressed. We felt like we would be comfortable in front of his camera as he was easy to get along with. We reached out soon after for a consultation and the rest is history! Alex certainly has an eye for capturing the most unique and creative shots – his night photos are second to none. Working with him was easy and comfortable and we could not be happier with the moments he was able to capture! He really brought our vibrant fall decor wedding to life.” – L

COLOUR PALETTE: “We love the fall season, which is why we chose to have our wedding in October. We wanted to keep with the fall theme so we decided to go with fall colours – rust, orange, yellow, greens, and white. We aren’t afraid to incorporate colour so our decor and florals were very vibrant. With that, our vibrant fall decor theme was created. Most of our table decor was DIY. We made place cards using mini pumpkins, table numbers incorporating some of our engagement photos, and taper candles in our colour pallet. We also had floral centrepieces created by Riverside Flowers in New Hamburg. They matched my bouquet, to tie it all together.” -L

TELL US YOUR STORY: “Dustin and I’s love story started like every good Canadian millennial love story does: in a junior ice hockey rink. It was here where Dustin, with the help of some overpriced arena beers, worked up the courage…to swipe right. After a few weeks of messaging back and forth on the dating app Bumble, it was time to meet. Our first date happened at the St. Jacobs’ Market where mini-doughnuts were had and I did every parent’s nightmare by getting into a stranger’s vehicle. Luckily, it was just to go for a walk on the University of Waterloo’s campus, where we both attended for undergrad. We both knew right away that there was something worth pursuing between us.

After spending a couple years travelling the 140km back and forth on weekends to visit each other. We decided it was time to close the gap. To really put our relationship to the test we decided that the best time to move in with one another was during the lockdown of a global pandemic, while I was also in the process of studying to become a Chartered Professional Accountant. We think these are experiences that every couple should have to go through before marriage! Despite the odds, our relationship didn’t just survive, it thrived!” – L

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “The biggest challenge was visualizing how all the elements we were planning would come together on the day. We didn’t have a planner or a coordinator, and neither of us has planned an event like this before. We had to put a lot of trust in the vendors we hired for guidance, as well as friends and other industry experts who had experience with planning weddings. I’m a bit of a control freak, so giving up some of that control was hard for me and did lead to quite a bit of stress. But this also helped in the end, as I was extremely organized and made sure to dot all my I’s and cross all my T’s (AKA have a very detailed spreadsheet). In the end all the advice, planning, and organization paid off and our wedding came together better than we could have imagined.” – L

BEST MEMORY: “Our first look! We did a first look before our wedding ceremony at Fryfogel Tavern, an old historic tavern just outside of New Hamburg. The location incorporated both architecture as well as nature, which made for some great photo opportunities, as well as being fairly private. This was both of our favourite memory as it was the moment we got to see each other for the first time, ready to commit to a life together. We also did our personal vows to one another here. This was the most time we had alone with one another during the entire wedding day, so it was awesome to be able to spend some intimate time with one another; many couples don’t get that opportunity on their wedding day.

The music and dancing was also a big highlight. Our DJ, Alonzo from InTUNE, was fantastic and had us and our guests dancing all night!” – L

ADVICE FROM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: “Start early (many vendors book up years in advance) and ask lots of questions to potential vendors (there are no dumb questions)! Also, try to have fun and not take planning too seriously. In the end, it’s about you and your spouse’s love for one another, everything else is secondary.” – L
