When it comes to your wedding day, flawless makeup can make you feel confident, radiant, and ready to walk down the aisle. But with so many beauty trends, products, and tips out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed — or even make a few mistakes. That’s why Lips N’ Lashes has put together the ultimate list of wedding makeup do’s and don’ts to help you achieve a timeless look that lasts from “I do” to the last dance.
Choosing a makeup artist
Their work - Check out their portfolio. This is a great way to see their style and the quality of their makeup work.
Punctuality – Make sure the artist you hire is reliable! Are they going to show up on time, or even show up at all? A trial is one way to test this. Ask around and check their reviews. Having a written contract is also a must!
Personality/Professionalism – Do you get along with the artist? Do you like their energy? You will be around them for a few hours on your most special day. Make sure they are not rude, unprofessional, unapproachable etc.
Pricing – We understand that everyone has a budget, but splurging a little on a great makeup artist can make a huge impact on your special day! You get what you pay for. Some artists who have been in the industry for many years can not only make you look and feel incredible, but they can help you figure out the timing for your wedding day, they can help cover that bruise or that pesky pimple, they know how to deal with people when they are most stressed etc. You will be looking at these photos for the rest of your life, make sure you are feeling and looking like a million bucks!
Schedule a trial
Doing a trial before the wedding day is a great way to get to know your artist. Did they show up on time, was their kit clean, were they professional and approachable, did their makeup skills match what they have in their portfolio? Having the chance to try different makeup looks means that on the wedding day, you are going to be feeling confidant and happy knowing that the look that you are wearing is exactly what you had imagined and that it is going to last all night. Take photos after your trial as well to see how the makeup will show on camera and in different lighting
Pick a great lip colour, but also consider teeth whitening
Choose a colour that not only compliments your skin tone, but also goes with your wedding colour scheme. For a kiss-proof look, try using a liquid lipstick or even a lip stain. A smile is something that you will be wearing the entire day, so make sure your teeth are pearly white!
Avoiding exfoliation, waxing, heat treatments, sun exposure, new products and overdoing it
In the days leading up to your wedding will help to ensure that your skin is in the best possible condition for a flawless application. Red/puffy or burned skin is tough to cover!
Don’t overdo it
In my opinion, wedding makeup should be similar to your everyday look but maybe a little more polished or enhanced. At the end of the day, you still want to look and feel like you! This is not the time to try out new “trends”
Don’t make any major last minute changes
Try not to overthink your bridal look or make any rash, last minute decisions. Trying something totally different on the wedding day when you have already done the trial may not end well. You don’t know how that product will sit or last on your skin, or how that smokey eye will show up in photos etc.
Don’t do it yourself
Unless you are a certified makeup artist, you should be hiring a professional. You will be the focal point and the center of attention in most of your wedding photos, so you want to be looking and feeling your best! Now is your time to sit back, relax and truly enjoy the moment! Be present in the now, and let yourself get pampered on one of the most special days of your life!
