Melissa and Kevin’s love story came full circle with a stunning Malaparte rooftop wedding in Toronto. The very same building where they had their first date. Surrounded by 90 of their closest family and friends, their day blended modern elegance with heartfelt moments. From the rose gold, white, and black décor to the joy of dancing under the city lights. Despite multiple pandemic-related postponements, their celebration was everything they dreamed of—proof that love (and a little patience) can make magic happen.
COUPLE: Melissa & Kevin
DATE: August 14, 2021
GUEST #: 90
CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATION: Malaparte "We chose this venue because we had our first date at Luma, which is in the same building! We thought it would be extra special to get married in the same place where we first met. We had to navigate a lot of changes and uncertainties during the planning process due to the pandemic. The Malaparte staff were very accommodating and allowed us to move our wedding date several times." - M
PHOTOGRAPHER: Zsuzsi Pal Photography "I loved how a friend's wedding photos turned out many years ago and made a mental note that when I get married I would reach out to her photographer. I am SO glad we chose Zsuzsi to capture our big day! Her style, direction, and energy translated perfectly into our photos. Her modern, editorial style is what makes her stand out. We couldn't be happier with how our photos turned out. She captured our Malaparte rooftop wedding perfectly!" - M
COLOUR PALETTE: Rose gold, white & black "We went with a colour palette that would really enhance the feel of our Malaparte rooftop wedding." - M
TELL US YOUR STORY: "It all began in January 2017, sparked by a series of well-timed swipes to the right! Our first date was at Luma, nestled inside the TIFF building in Toronto. We met up for post-work drinks, and from the very first moment, the conversation felt effortless and natural. Three hours flew by in what seemed like mere minutes. It was clear to both of us that we’d found something special. We immediately knew we wanted to see each other again.
Over the next few months, our relationship blossomed as we explored new restaurants, attended shows and musicals, and ventured to exciting new places. Kevin, who was relatively new to Toronto, especially enjoyed discovering the city alongside me. We shared countless adventures, met each other’s family and friends, and quickly grew even closer.
One of the first big milestones we shared as a couple was adopting our rescue dog, Alphi, who will be turning 10 this year. Kevin was a great sport about my “dog-lady” tendencies, and a year later, he agreed to adopt our second dog, Ollie, who showers us with unconditional love.
In 2019, we took a trip to Calgary to visit my family, and it was there, on an icy lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains, that Kevin surprised me with a proposal. The scene could have been straight out of a movie, and it meant the world to me that he chose Calgary as the place to propose—it’s where I grew up, and it holds such a special place in my heart.
Though we had originally planned to marry in 2020, the pandemic threw a wrench into those plans, forcing us to reschedule a few times. But in the end, we had our dream wedding and it was nothing short of magical. The day was filled with joy, love, and the kind of happiness that’s impossible to put into words. It truly was one of the best days of our lives—right up there with the day our son, Liam, was born.
Now, we live in Etobicoke with our two dogs and our energetic 2.5-year-old son. We’ve built a life full of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories, and we couldn’t be more excited for the future!" - M&K

ADVICE FROM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: "Pick and choose the wedding traditions you truly want to incorporate, and don't feel pressured to do everything on the list just because other people choose! It's more important to do what feels true to you." - M
